Enter the Packetninjas & SocialNet

JDA is fortunate to work with some of the most innovative people and partner companies in the Computer Forensics and Computer Security field,  Alabama-based Packetninjas LLC is a perfect example. Packetninjas recently announced SocialNet, a set of commercially supported transforms for the powerful but notoriously difficult to use Maltego Open Source Intelligence platform. Packetninjas has developed a Software As A Service (SaaS) offering designed to allow an investigator to quickly and visually collect and connect information from available Internet information and social media network sites into investigative leads. Packetninja's SocialNet then takes the next step of link the subject's friends and known associates based on the collected information. We've had an opportunity to watch Packetninja's CEO Daniel Clemens as he demonstrated how small bits of information like a subject's email address could quickly be expanded into a virtual web of connections from different social media sites and links to known associates.

The number of investigative uses for a product like SocialNet is quite broad; Clemens gave us examples of using SocialNet to track money laundering rings, track individuals for legal processing, and dig up known associates of individuals under criminal investigation.  The picture below doesn't really do SocialNet justice as it had to be cut down from all the associations and connections found but it gives you an idea of the power of this innovative technology.
