Two External Hard Drive Enclosures That Get A Thumbs Up | Print |  E-mail

I am always looking for the best hardware that will not break the bank.  Two pieces of hardware I have ran across recently allow you to attach external hard drives to your desktop or laptop computer systems.  This is useful when you want to process large forensic duplications on a computer system, such as a laptop, that does not have a large capacity to hold all of your forensic images.  The five main things I look for when buying an external hard drive enclosures are:
  1. Can it support the full capacity of the hard drive you put into it?
  2. Can hard drives be quickly and easily swapped in and out of the enclosure?
  3. What is the speed from the enclosure?  Faster is always better when processing huge files.
  4. How loud is the enclosure?
  5. How hot does the enclosure become?
With these five things in mind, I added the following two external hard drive enclosures to my "thumbs up" list.

National Computer Forensic Institute Unveiled | Print |  E-mail

The Department of Homeland Security announced the creation of the National Computer Forensic Institute.  The Institute is being created by the U.S. Secret Service and partially funded by the National Cyber Security Division.  It will be interesting to see how the NCFI fits into the other computer forensic resources for law enforcement.

Last Chance To Patch Before Daylight Savings Time Starts | Print |  E-mail

Starting Sunday, March 11, 2007, at 2AM local standard time clocks will be set forward one hour to 3AM local daylight time. This new date was established by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and is going to require patching most of your favorite Microsoft products. I've done a quick run-down on how to make sure your most important applications are ready.

After endless hours of research, I determined that there was not a one stop resource for configuring a RADIUS server on Fedora Core 6 for the purpose of WPA2 wireless authentication.  This blog will detail the steps involved with this configuration and provide you with some configuration files you can download and install.
